Gabriel Gomes is only 12 years old. But, the height of the boy from Brazil, Brazil has reached 2.3 meters.
In order to stop bone growth, Gabriel Gomes called gigantism suffered, had to undergo a risky brain surgery.
Because if left unchecked, unusual growth can interfere with the performance of other organs, until finally lead to death.
Gigantism is a disorder caused by tumors in the piuitari gland, which triggers excessive growth hormone.
The same condition also affects Richard Keil, an actor who plays the role of The Spy Who Loved Me.
Bond's enemy was diagnosed with acromegaly. Acromegaly is the term "giant" disease found in adulthood.
Meanwhile, similar developmental disorders found before the puberty phase are known as gigantism.

Thinking of dead
Gabriel explains how her height affects her physical and emotional condition.
"My body is very disturbing, I want to live a normal life," he said as quoted by the Daily Mail, Thursday (19/10/2017).
"I feel pain, and my legs are very painful, sometimes my back hurts from being bent," he continued.
The boy claimed to want to look like other 12-year-old child. He also found it difficult to find a school that would accept it.
"I wish I could go to school after surgery," he said.
At the age of 10, Gabriel underwent his first surgery and spent a month at the hospital.
Although surgery is quite successful, doctors reach their brain through the nose, but they can not eliminate all the tumors that continue to grow.
"He thinks he will die," said Gabriel's mother, Ricardene.

After two years, Gabriel needs emergency surgery. If it fails, nothing can stop the rate of bone growth, and other organs can fail.
Hormone expert, Dr Flavio Cadegiani said, gigantism is a rare disease that can endanger life.
"The sufferer may die within the next 15 years, so he has to undergo a new operation," Cadegiani said.

Risk procedure
Finally, the mother had to prepare brain surgery at Das Clinicas Hospital in Sao Paulo, 874 kilometers from where Gabriel's family lived.
This operation is the second time for Gabriel. Surgery focusing on that part of the craniotomy will be more risky than the first surgery.
The doctor will lift the bony part of the skull, to reach the part of the brain.
Then the cover bone will be released temporarily, and will be replaced after the operation is completed.
Because, based on MRI examination of tumor removal results in previous surgery, found further complications.
Complications that are considered dangerous because it approached the important blood vessels, called carotids.
Surgery will have side effects such as blood clotting, cerebral hemorrhage, seizures, stroke, and coma, can even result in death.
However, if Gabriel does not undergo the operation, death will still haunt him.

Gabriel Hope
Ricardene says, Gabriel has more courage than a boy his age.
"I wish he could be a different person, enjoying the normal life he never had," he said.
"I hope this struggle really paid off after the suffering so far," he said.
In a sweet moment before Gabriel underwent an operation, he said something to his mother, "You are the love of my life. Pray for me."
The tumor to be taken is just the size of a pea with a diameter of 20 millimeters. Although small, but greatly affect the health of his body.

Tension
Outside the operating room, the mother, Ricardene was in extreme tiredness.
After eight hours of work, the team of doctors finally managed to remove the tumor that causes extreme bone growth in Gabriel's body.
However, when the operation was over, the medical team had difficulty waking Gabriel. He is not fully conscious, and is likely to suffer from the right side of his body.
"There may be injuries to the system running the right body, but it's too early to predict it," Sanders said.

The child is then taken to the emergency brain examination unit.
They found a blood clot that made Gabriel paralyzed on one side of his body.
After that, Gabriel was rushed to an intensive care unit.
"We do not know how long or how much he will recover," said a surgeon, Cescato.
Ricardene told the doctor then felt guilty, "My God, I can not accept this."
"I have made my son's life over," he said in an emotional tone.

Gabriel's mother had been told her son was in critical period.
Thankfully, with intensive care to thin the blood, Gabriel awakens from his "sleep".
Gabriel is fully conscious. He can move both sides of his body.
Currently, he has to undergo intensive physiotherapy to help him restore the condition.
"I thought I'd lose him, but thank heavens, he's a lot better now," Ricardene said.
Gabriel's blood flow has returned to normal. There is no further risk of blood clots that can affect the brain or complicate the heart.
But the question is, will he stop growing?

"The purpose of this surgery is to lower hormone levels, I bring good news, the hormone is greatly reduced, reaching normal levels."
"The removal of the tumor is very effective," Sanders said.
One month after surgery, Gabriel is allowed to go home.
Her mother was flooded with excitement to see the child healthy enough to be out of the hospital and to return to normal life.
"My life is very shaken, but after the storm subsided, you know? It's like a resolved mission to me," Ricardene said.
