What's it like to play Gran Turismo with a real car? Jann Mardenborough, a British gamer has done it on the Silverstone legendary racing circuit.
Mardenborough is a graduate of Nissan GT Adacemy, a TV program that gives game players the chance to pursue a career with Nissan. Mardenborough was allowed to try out Nissan GT-R / C racing car.
Uniquely, the car is controlled remotely with a gamepad or DualShock 4 controller belonging to the PlayStation 4 console, like Gran Turismo games. Mardenborough is not behind the wheel, but in a low-flying helicopter following the car's speed on the circuit.
Racing car with automatic transmission is fitted with a series of robots to control the steering and gas pedals and brakes. A total of 6 pieces of computer placed in the trunk of the car capable of providing control updates as much as 100 times per second.
The computer then connected to a helicopter through radio waves that can work up to a distance of 1 km. In addition to the gamepad, Mardenborough is equipped with an LCD screen on the helicopter that shows the speed of the car.
Nissan GT-R / C itself has a V6 engine capable of spitting out 542 horsepower.
Despite controlling the car from afar with the PS4 gamepad, Mardenborough was able to spur this car at Silverstone to reach a maximum speed of 210 km per hour with the fastest lap 1 minute 17 seconds.
