At least 16 civilians, including several children, were killed in an air strike believed to have been carried by Russian fighter jets, in Deir Ezzor province, Syria, on Thursday (19/10/2017).
In recent times, parts of the province in eastern Syria are controlled by Islamic terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
"Civilians were killed as they tried to cross the Euphrates River near Abu Kamal City," the UK-based Observatory for Human Rights said.
This monitoring agency relies on information from a network of sources in Syria.

Abu Kamal is one of the few remaining ISIS fortresses in Syria.
ISIS has lost control of Raqa this week, previously called the capital of the "caliphate" of terrorists, claimed in 2014.
Meanwhile, Russia started an intervention in Syria to support its ally, President Bashar al-Assad since 2015.
Russia has also helped the regime win back most of the country.
