Ibrahim Kalin, The press secretary of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said it welcomed the signing of a reconciliation deal between two rival political groups in Palestine, Hamas and Fatah."This reconciliation agreement put an end to the conflict between our brothers in Palestine," Kalin said in a statement quoted by Anadolu news agency on Sunday (15/10/2017).Hamas and Fatah are known to sign a reconciliation deal in Cairo, Egypt on Thursday, October 12, 2017. The move marks a new chapter in Palestine history as well as ending the political split that has lasted for more than 10 years.
Under the agreement, Fatah based in Ramallah will assume political and administrative responsibilities in the Gaza before December 1.Furthermore, Kalin added that President Erdogan always supported the reconciliation agreement. The Number one in Turkey was also reported to have met both Hamas leaders and Fatah leaders.
Erdogan's last meeting and Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas was held last August in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
Kalin also urged international organizations, especially the United Nations to end the humanitarian crisis in Palestine and revive the peace process and realize a two-state solution.
"Israel must end its siege on Palestine land and avoid movements that endanger the reconciliation process," said Kalin.
The West Bank and the blockaded Gaza Strip have been politically divided since 2007. At that time, Hamas defeated Fatah in parliamentary elections.
Through a bloody conflict, Hamas succeeds in ousting Fatah who refuses to recognize the election results. And since then, Hamas and Fatah have each gained control of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Some reconciliation efforts failed.
